“Charles’ Day” — celebrating the life of your homie through a skate jam, by Bangkal Goon$

The month of June is undoubtedly a highly anticipated month for many of us skaters, as it marks the start of a month-long celebration of the art form & sports that we love – Go Skateboarding Day. However, for the skate crew of Bangkal Goon$ it holds even a greater significance for them: a way to gather everyone who loves skateboarding and a day to celebrate the life of one of their homies, Charles.

Last June 15, we dropped by and had the chance to cover and enjoy the event “Charles’ Day” on the roads of Evangelista Street in Bangkal, Makati. Kids, rippers, and the young-at-heart flocked to the streets, high-fiving and hugs being thrown continuously, lots of smiles and hypes, and also lots of cheering for every wild trick being landed by local rippers and enjoyers.

For Bangkal Goon$, one of the main goals of this event, “Charles’ Day”, is not only to create core memories of a doped skatejam to everyone who attended the event but also to advocate: mental health awareness, and opening skateboarding as part of any physical or recreational activities that everyone can try and do to reduce their stress, gain confidence, spend time with your friends or even spend time outside to get some sun, have a good sweat and exercise, feel a sense of freedom, and an avenue to practice a present state of mind.
